The most talked about subject at Ontal-CGW, has been financial security within the golf industry. Everyone wants to know if our program would give them this type of security. From our personal experience the answer would be yes. We’ve been doing Corporate Golf successfully for twenty years now. We never have to worry about someone firing us, or how much money we could make, or how many hours we have worked.
In the old days many golf professionals owned the pro shop, and they also owned and operated the golf carts. So they were true independent business owners. But along the way, most pros lost the golf cart concession, and many have been losing their pro shops. In the new economy golf clubs need the money to help maintain their financial stability.
For years now, it’s bothered us that a board of directors can decide the fate of their talented golf professional. During today’s economy, some public golf courses are even eliminating the golf professional job totally. Every course has and needs a superintendent, a club manager, and a golf pro. When a decision has to be made to eliminate one position, its always the golf pro. The course superintendent keeps the course playable, while the manager provides revenue, through food and bar services. So they find someone to check in the golfers, and can do without the complete services of a golf professional. These events from our current economy, are not what we call financial security like working for yourself and being your own boss.
With our Corporate Golf Program it only takes a short period of time to secure your first customers, then you can start earning money while working with your new corporations. We know it’s scary to start out with no salary, but the finished product is well worth it. That’s what is called true financial security working for yourself and being your own boss.
My name is Mike Hanschke and my assessment of the golf industry, being a golf rep. for 32+ years is pretty bleak. Country Club professionals have all lost at least one assistant. More and more golf pro’s are also taking on the club manager position. Many public golf facilities don’t have golf professionals anymore. Not that long ago Dick’s Sporting Goods released around 500 golf professionals. The average salary of head professionals has gone down. Many head pro’s don’t own the pro shop or bag storage anymore. Most pro’s are giving fewer lessons and junior golf programs have shrunk. We need to start growing the game with new adult golfers. If Mom or Dad or both play golf, siblings will follow and the game can get healthy again. Ontal-CGW can be that vehicle.
